Yvonne Chaka Chaka, dubbed the “Princess of Africa”, was born in South Africa in 1965. She not only became the first black child to make an appearance in South African television, but since launching her singing career in 1985, she has become not only become the most distinguished artist on the continent, but also one of the most widely known African performers in the world!

Known as a hero, mentor, role model, warrior and an agent for change, Yvonne not only exercises incredible influence with international audiences, but she is also a passionate promoter of the rights of women, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador against Malaria, a Trustee of Tomorrow Trust (which educates orphans and vulnerable children) and more. She has performed on stage with stars like Annie Lennox, Bono from U2, and the classic rock band Queen, as well as performed for world leaders such as Queen Elizabeth II and U.S. President George W. Bush Jr. to name but a few. Mentor and father figure Nelson Mandela had the following do say about his “dear daughter”:”It is what we make of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another. Yvonne, you are a testament to my belief. You have made all of South Africa proud to claim you as a national icon. You have motivated millions of women and men on our continent. Your generosity has benefited untold numbers of families and orphans facing the challenges of AIDS, terminal illness, abuse, poverty, and illiteracy. I know you will always make your indelible mark wherever you go, and with whatever you do. There is no stopping you! You will always be my Princess of Africa.”

Yvonne Chaka Chaka, tunnettu myös nimeltä “Afrikan Prinsessa”, syntyi Etelä-Afrikassa vuonna 1965. Hän oli ensimmäinen tummaihoinen lapsi joka oli koskaan esiintynyt Etelä Afrikan televisiossa, ja aloitettuaan laulu uransa 1985, hänestä on tullut ei pelkästään Afrikan kuuluisin artisti, mutta myös yksi maailman tunnetuimmista Afrikkalaisista esiintyjistä!

Tunnettu sankarina, rooli mallina ja muutoksen agenttina, Yvonne harjoittaa uskomatonta vaikutusvaltaa kansainvälisen audienssinsa kanssa. Hän on palavahenkinen taistelija naisten oikeuksien puolesta, UNICEFIN Goodwill Lähettiläs Malarian tautia vastaan, luottamus mies Tomorrow Trust järjestössä (joka kouluttaa orpoja ja heikko-osaisia lapsia) yms. In Africa anything can happen. 7pm I received a desperate phone call from
our night watchman:”Madam, please come and help me, I fear I might die. My
hemoglobin has dropped down to 4.4, my heart is going too fast!!”
I got someone who knew where he stayed. He was in great agony, afraid and
very sick. We reached hospital just in time before the lab technician left
home.  “You are lucky” the nurse told us. It was not luck, but God was still
in control. His Hb was only 3.8. He needed blood fast! At the clinic there
was only one unit (450ml) of B Rh+ blood. They started the drip immediately.
“You need donors”  the nurse told us. My blood group was O Rh+ and I could
be a donor. At the same time while donating blood I phoned home to our sons
and two of our friends who were at our compound. It was a miracle: We got
five extra units of blood that was suitable for our sick friend. Our
hemoglobin levels were from 13.2 up to 16.4! We prayed over the patient and
left home. In Africa to arrange 5 units of suitable blood in one hours time
is a miracle. Pray for Alfred: his wife left him, recently he was tested
Hiv-positive and his son has sickle cell anemia.  He was literally  “in the
valley of the shadow of death”  and it was a miracle to get help for him.
Alex told me earlier on a phone:”Let’s save a life!”  That’s  exactly what
happened: some one’s life was extended at least a little.

President’s Export Award

We received a surprise phone call and visit from Uganda’s Export Promotion Board. They informed us that Caring Hands will receive the President’s Export Award. It will be presented at a ceremony on October the 3rd by the person whose name is on the award - the president of Uganda himself, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The recognition is awarded because of the “value added” that we give to exports - working with the poor, HIV and AIDS, orphans, gender, people with disabilities,  employment, recycling, using available resources, starting the organization without capital, etc.

Presidentin vientipalkinto

Saimme yllättäin puhelun sekä vierailun Ugandan vientiä edistävältä johtokunnalta (Uganda Export Promotion Board). He ilmoittivat , että Caring Hands tulee saamaan palkinnon Presidentiltä (President’s Export Award).  Ugandan Presidentti, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,  tulee itse ojentamaan palkinnon juhlassa,  joka pidetään lokakuun kolmantena päivänä. Tämä tunnustus annetaan meille, koska tuotteisiimme sisältyy “lisäarvoa” - työskentelemme ihmisten hyväksi, jotka ovat köyhiä, Hiv-positiivisia, orpoja, vammaisia ja työttömiä. Pyrimme myös vaikuttamaan naisten aseman parantamiseen.  Tuotteemme ovat ympäristöystävällisiä: käytämme tuotteissamme  kierrätysmateriaalia sekä paikallisesti löytyviä resursseja. Organisaatiomme alkoi ilman pääomaa.
